Frequently Asked Questions
Ceramic tile is actually not just for floors and backsplashes anymore. I discovered painting on tile about 10 years ago because I didn’t really like painting on canvas. I prefer painting on tile over canvas for a lot of different reasons, the most of which is it’s versatility. Ceramic tile can be displayed inside or outside, framed and hung on the wall, or permanently installed in any room in your house or office. I also find that it is easier to work with than canvas and with it being a unique medium, it definitely becomes a showpiece in any home.
Epoxy resin is an incredible product and can be used in so many different ways, from jewelry-making to car manufacturing. Resin is created by combining two components – the liquid resin and hardener – to create a solid state. That’s the scientific version (which I am not). The artistic version is this: I combine the liquid with the hardener and pour it over the tile to add a hardened layer of. protection, which makes it heat, cold and moisture resistant, and dries with a clear, glass-like finish
One of the great things about tile is the ease in caring for it. By adding a resin sealer, I add a layer of protection to it that protects it from sun damage, age and decay. Sometimes they do get dusty, so just wipe it down with a damp cloth and you are good to go.
Ceramic tile can be very fragile, especially if it is bumped or dropped. They can suffer from chips or cracks, so I back my pieces with a thick piece of black felt and, believe it or not, it does a really good job of acting like a shock absorber and adding a little extra layer of protection.
