Tufted Titmouse

ABOUT THE ART:

“The Tufted Titmouse” is my first time painting this amazing bird. I was attracted to this bird, not just because its colors, but because it has spiked feathers on its head that kind of reminds me of the spikes haircuts of the ’80s. Once you see one you will always be able to recognize one. I have always thought they were beautiful but it wasn’t until I started reading about them that I realized how much they remind me of me. Here are some great facts about these amazing birds:

• They are very energetic and active and will dangle from thin twigs, sometimes upside down (that’s an attention-getter! In my defense, it was New Year’s Eve),
• They stay close to home, even in the winter months. (one thing I will never do is fly south for the winter),
• Most spend their entire lives only a few miles from their birthplace, (I think my family regrets this one),
• They love to build their nests by raiding other animals for fur and hair from opossums, raccoons, dogs, cats, even humans. (just like me on Saturdays at  a garage sale).

Once I learned these amazing facts I knew in an instant I had to paint this bird. Maybe this reminds you of you or someone you know, and now that you know some facts about them it can be a daily reminder of the same fun facts about you.

Details of the Piece:

This piece is sealed with a high-grade, high-gloss varnish, with UV protection to protect against sunlight and fading. The piece is signed on the lower right and is backed with a 1/8″ thick black felt to add stability and protect the piece from chipping or breaking.
