Sunflower Dancer

As a costume designer, ballet costumes were always some of my favorites. This was where my imagination really got to come out and play. There is a type of fantasy world that always comes into play that you can’t get with any other type of theater. Worlds with dancing sunflowers, swans on pointe and a nutcracker who becomes a prince; ballet brings fairy tales to life. As a costume designer I had the great pleasure to be a part of that. I loved that anything goes when it comes to dance and creativity is so important because you are telling a story through costume and movement instead of words.

As an artist I wanted to revisit the land of tutus without drowning in tulle. The vast majority of my time as a designer was eaten up by building the costumes that I designed on paper. My favorite part, the part that involved paint and canvas, took up very little time. Now, as an artist, I can spend all the time that I want. And that’s what I’ve done.

Sunflower Dancer is an acrylic painting on a 12″ x 12″ ceramic tile and features an elegant ballerina in a sunflower tutu, with a bodice of burnt umber and black with a scalloped edge,embellished with lace and pearls. The tutu consists of multiple fabric panels in the shape of yellow and sienna petals to simulate a sunflower.

You are about to receive a completely original acrylic painting, not a print! It is painted on acrylics on a 12″ x 12″ ceramic tile which is framed and ready to hang on your favorite wall or placed in an easel and displayed amongst your favorite decor.

The frame is a gorgeous black/brown wood frame with a copper-highlighted center that added a beautiful highlight to this painting. The size of the ceramic tile is 12″ x 12″ and framed, the overall size is 15 5/8″ x 15 5/8″.

Please Note: I try to photograph in the best lighting possible, so colors can vary based on the electronic device.
