ABOUT THE ART:

I love getting handmade gifts because that person spent multiple hours creating something that is meant only for me. I have been receiving handmade gifts my entire life and through them I learned the value of creativity. My grandmother crocheted, my mother sews and my aunt quilts. These were the women that I watched as a child, make something from nothing and I have carried these gifts with me as an adult.

The memories of the strong women in my life were the inspiration for Stitches in Time. This ceramic tile is an 8″ square piece featuring the tools of the seamstress. When my grandmother died I found multiple wooden spools of thread and as I looked at them the thoughts that came into my mind were the creations that were made from these and the stories that they have to tell. These stories came from another time and are a connection to memories of the past and the people who live there.

DETAILS AND CARE OF PIECE:

This piece is sealed with a high-grade, epoxy resin, with UV protection to protect against sunlight and fading. The piece is signed on the lower right and is backed with a 1/8″ thick black felt to add stability and protect the piece from chipping or breaking.
