ABOUT THE ART:
I am not the daughter of a soldier lost in war, but I am the daughter of a soldier who had to deal with its aftermath. The soldiers who laid down their lives for our country are forever our heroes. But, for me, the ones who went to war and returned home and still have the courage and conviction to wake up every day and go on with their lives after the horrors they have seen deserve our undying respect for the heroes that they are, as well.
To receive a Purple Heart today means the a soldier has been wounded or killed in combat, or died of wounds sustained while in combat. The original Purple Heart was called the Badge of Military Merit by George Washington on August 7, 1782, making it the oldest military honor still given to the U.S. military.
“Purple Heart” is a 12″ x 12″ ceramic tile featuring the medal that all soldiers respect but none want to receive. It is painted in acrylics with a background of black, browns and grays, reminiscent of the camouflage that soldiers where. The purple heart rests in the center as a focus of the sacrifice that all soldiers give. I recently stumbled on a quote from our 30th president, Calvin Coolidge, about the purple heart which states:
No person was ever honored for what he received.
Honor has been the reward for what he gave.

DETAILS AND CARE OF PIECE:
This beautifully versatile piece looks great:
- Displayed on an easel indoors or outdoors in areas such as a living room, entryway or even on your porch or patio,
- Hung in a beautiful frame onto a favorite wall in your home,
- Or even more exciting, installing this piece in the kitchen, bathroom or laundry as a permanent piece that can be enjoyed for years.
Each of my tiles are primed with 2-3 coats of gesso, painted in acrylics and is finished with epoxy resin, making it a very versatile piece that is heat, cold and moisture resistant.
This piece is backed by a thick layer of black felt. This gives the tile extra stability but care is needed because it is ceramic tile and capable of breaking.
To clean, wipe with a damp cloth.
Orders are processed 1-2 days after purchase. Each order is shipped FREE by USPS Flat Rate 2-3 Day Shipping.
Please Note: I try to photograph in the best lighting possible, so colors can vary based on the electronic devise. Some photos are taken without resin applied because lighting can sometimes cause a glare to the tiles. But, rest assured, your finished piece will have a beautiful, shiny resin finish.
