Mystic Mushrooms

ABOUT THE ART:

When we were children there was nothing like getting drawn into the world of a good fairy tale. These were magical worlds where forests are enchanted, mushrooms are magic houses, unicorns exist and fairies fly. But more than anything else these stories were filled with beautiful illustrations that really set our imaginations into overdrive. It was easy to pour over pictures from artists like Eloise Wilkins, Sheila Beckett and Walt Disney and today, Christian Birmingham and K.Y. Craft. Their talents brought these stories to life. As a child I was fascinated with the colors and the illustrations and how a picture can tell a story in a way that words couldn’t fully convey, and as an adult I still find myself turning to fairy tale artists for inspiration. Now I have changed from the fairy tales of Hans Christian Anderson and the Brothers Grimm to the fantasies of Shakespeare and J.R.R. Tolkien, even though I have never given up my love for classic Disney. The combination of stories like A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Lord of the Rings has left me with a need to create a painting inspired by these great authors.

“Mystic Mushrooms” is painted in greens, reds and browns. As you walk through the forest you stumble upon a little clump of mushrooms in the moss. It sets to mind a miniature village ready for the tiniest fairies to move in.

This ceramic tile is 5″ x 5″ (12.5 cm x 12.5 cm) and 1/4″ thick. This piece is framed in a beautiful green frame with a finished size of 5.75″ x 5.75″ (14.4 cm x 14.4 cm) which makes it a perfect piece to be hung on a small wall or as part of a larger display of your favorite nature art.

DETAILS AND CARE OF PIECE:

This piece is sealed in epoxy resin that gives the painting a mirror-like” finish, with UV protection to protect against sunlight and fading. The piece is signed on the lower right and is backed with a 1/8″ thick piece of black felt to add stability and protect the piece from chipping or breaking.
