In times of change and constant uncertainty there is one thing that remains the same – Tradition. Tradition adds calm and hope to an otherwise chaotic world, and the month of December is the time of year where cultural, religious and family traditions take center stage. Traditions are like snowflakes; even though they share a common origin, they are all unique and extremely personal. These traditions start as children and, as adults, we try to recapture the magic and wonder of those times every year.
One cherished tradition from my childhood was Christmas cookies. Every year on Christmas day when entering my grandmother’s house we were greeted with a platter of candies and cookies to treat ourselves to until dinner was ready (at grandma’s house we always had dessert before dinner).
Every year, as an adult, I try to recapture the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of those years. That is the purpose of this painting “Grandma’s Christmas Cookies”. The background is textured in shades of black, raw umber, beige and sand to signify the memories of Christmas past. The cookies are representations of all the symbols of Christmas: Santa, snowflakes, Christmas trees, holly and presents.
This tile can be an annual decoration to display with your favorite Christmas decor or left out all year round as a reminder of your own Christmas spirit. And best of all, this is a gift that will never go stale.

Please Note: I try to photograph in the best lighting possible, so colors can vary based on the electronic device. Some photos are taken without resin applied because lighting can sometimes cause a glare to the tiles. But, rest assured, your finished piece will have a beautiful, shiny resin finish.
