Celtic Knot

ABOUT THE ART:

 The beauty of the celtic knot is that there is no beginning and no end. They have endless paths and represent eternity. This can be in love, friendship, and loyalty. Because we can’t see the beginning or end, we are reminded of the timeless nature of our own spirit. These symbols first started appearing in history in the Book of Kells after about 450 AD, and it’s not really clear what they were used for. I like to think that the line represents our lives and becomes interwoven based on the people we meet, the experiences we have and the struggles we face; all connections that make up a single life. The center of the knot representing our highest level of spirituality.

My goal when creating this piece was to represent a love of mine: the ancient past. The stories of myths and heroes have always been some of my favorites. The sinking into  stories of King Arthur and Merlin; Robin Hood and his Merry Men; and Frodo and Sam in Middle Earth have always been a great way to spend an afternoon. I have also always been fascinated by kaleidoscopes and drawings of Escher. I love how, like a Celtic knot, there is no beginning or end and how the world can look a different with a little change in perspective. These are some of the reasons the “Celtic Knot” is so special to me.

DETAILS AND CARE OF PIECE:

This piece is sealed with a high-grade, epoxy resin, with UV protection to protect against sunlight and fading. The piece is signed on the lower right and is backed with a 1/8″ thick black felt to add stability and protect the piece from chipping or breaking.
