Cardinal In the Storm

ABOUT THE ART:

“Angels appear when Cardinals are near.” That is a saying that I grew up with and and has always given me comfort when I think of loved ones who have passed away. I love that every time I see one, it means that someone I love is paying me a visit. A cardinal never migrates and rarely strays too far from home. The same can be said for our loved ones. They are no more than a breath away and are forever connected to our own spirit. Cardinals are there to trigger memories of them and that they will live forever. The cardinal shows up to let us know that our loved ones have never left their home. Their home is now within us.

That is the purpose behind this painting, “Cardinal in the Storm”, as a reminder that even though our loved ones have passed the winter of their lives, they will forever live on as long as someone remembers them. This piece is painted on a blue textured background with a large red cardinal perched in profile on a pine tree after a light snowfall. For those who don’t have the luxury of seeing these amazing birds every day outside their window then this is the next best thing.

Each of my tiles are primed with 2-3 coats of gesso, painted in acrylics and is finished with epoxy resin, making it a very versatile piece that is heat, cold and moisture resistant.

This piece is backed by a thick layer of black felt. This gives the tile extra stability but care is needed because it is ceramic tile and capable of breaking.

To clean, wipe with a damp cloth.

Please Note: I try to photograph in the best lighting possible, so colors can vary based on the electronic devise. Some photos are taken without resin applied because lighting can sometimes cause a glare to the tiles. But, rest assured, your finished piece will have a beautiful, shiny resin finish.
